What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy are ways of addressing and resolving issues. It can involve identifying options and choosing between them, learning new skills to cope better with problems, gaining greater understanding of what is occurring, or being supported while recovering from some significant life event.
A counsellor, is trained to listen and to understand what you are feeling. You will be helped to recognise and draw on your own strengths and resources. You may even discover new qualities you did not know you had. It is a place to explore difficult issues. It is also a space in which to grow and develop.
As you begin to understand and acknowledge your feelings you may be able to start changing patterns of behaviour which keep recurring and causing difficulties. In order to understand your feelings you may need to look at the past and see where such feelings originated and how they developed. Gradually, you may become aware of how your past is influencing the present and how this effects your feelings about yourself and your relationships.
Life and Success coaching is one of many specific approaches that can be provided. For more details please contact us to discuss your individual needs.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes, the content of the sessions are wholly confidential in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical guidelines, to which our therapists work. Only in extreme cases, such as if human life or a child's safety were at risk, would any contact be made with a third party and this would be negotiated with you before hand.
How many sessions are needed?
This varies from person to person and depends on the sort of issue(s) you are bringing. We work in such a way as to keep the number of sessions needed to a minimum. You and the counsellor will know when you have achieved your goals. Sometimes it is good for you to go away and experience some of the changes you have made and then come back and explore some more.
How much does it cost?
A one hour session costs £40. The sessions are on a weekly basis as this is proved to be the most therapeutic way forward. As the therapy continues the sessions with consultation may be reduced to every two weeks.
If you are seeking therapy but feel that you cannot afford £40 then please let us know and we will do our best to help accomodate your need. If you do not ask then we do not know, so please take that step, it just might change your life!
